History
Carlson Wagonlit Travel has a long history in the UK and can trace its origin back to the 1700's when Thomas Pickfords started using pack-horses to carry slate across the Pennines.
In 1904 Pickfords Removals created Pickfords Travel in order to sell, primarily, rail tickets. In 1986 Pickfords Travel acquired the business travel division of Lunn Poly. In May 1989 Pickfords Business Travel was created with the split of the business travel and leisure divisions. Wagons-lits Travel acquired Pickfords Business Travel in October 1991, forming Wagon-lits UK.
In 1955 James Moffat opened the first AT Mays Travel Agency in Saltcoats, Scotland. Carlson Travel Network acquired AT Mays in 1995.
Wagons-lits Travel merged with Carlson Travel Network in July 1994 to form Carlson
Wagonlit Travel UK.
