New travel disruptions as volcanic ash closes some airports in UK, Ireland and Netherlands | 10:30 AM GMT, May 17, 2010
As reported via
CWT Alert, airports in parts of United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands were closed
Monday, May 17 due to the volcanic ash cloud generated by the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.
London’s major hubs, Heathrow and Gatwick airports, are now reopened after a six-hour
closure, but restrictions to some inbound and outbound flights remain. Britain's Civil Aviation
Authority has left in place no-fly zones over Northern Ireland, and parts of Scotland and Wales. In
addition, some airports in Ireland and Amsterdam's Schipol airport are closed until at least early
Monday afternoon, local time.
Some flights to Europe have been cancelled as a result of the airport closures while others
are experiencing delays.
CWT clients are encouraged to run
Traveler Locator reports in the
CWT Program Management Center (PMC) to identify any affected travelers.
CWT travelers are advised to check their carrier’s website for the most current flight
information before departing for the airport.
CWT continues to monitor the situation and its impact on call activity; operations will be
adjusted to best service all travelers.
Additional updates will be provided as appropriate.
For full coverage on the situation, travelers should consult CWT’s
Volcanic Ash
resource site.
