Late-breaking news affecting travel

Heathrow Express - Upcoming industrial action to affect travel | 05:10 PM GMT, February 22, 2012


The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) has announced a series of strikes against Heathrow Express, starting this weekend.

Strike dates and times


26-27 February – 24-hour strike from 12.15 GMT on Sunday through to 12.14 GMT on Monday
3-5 March – 48-hour industrial action from 03.00 GMT on Saturday through to 2.59 GMT on Monday
11-12 March – 24-hour strike from 12.15 GMT on Sunday through to 12.14 GMT on Monday


Contingency plans

Heathrow Express will operate services that will depart every 30 minutes throughout Sunday 26 February and Monday 27 February until approximately 15.00 on Monday, when normal services will resume. Journey times will be as normal during this period.

Detailed service plans for 26-27 February are available from the Heathrow Express website. Timetables for the March dates are yet to be announced.


What do CWT customers need to do?


Heathrow Express is encouraging customers to purchase tickets in advance, either online or via their mobile app. Customers will be able to purchase tickets from staff at National Express stations on the day of travel, however ticket offices may not be open during the strike period.


Additional tips


• Notify travellers arriving into or departing from Heathrow Airport during these dates to allow extra time for travel if using Heathrow Express.
• Check the Heathrow Express website for modified train times on these dates before you travel.
• Carriages will likely be more crowded than usual because of the limited train service, especially during peak travel times.
• Contact your local CWT branch or programme manager for more information.
