December 2005
Effective December 22, airline travelers can expect
to see more random screenings and fewer prohibited items, as a result of changes
to screening procedures from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The TSA believes these changes will give them the benefit of unpredictability,
making it difficult for terrorists to know with certainty what screening
procedures they will encounter, and with fewer items to look for and confiscate,
allow screeners to better focus on more serious threats, like explosives.
The focus on improving security screening has not waned; the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been at the heart of the issues and the improvements. While they continue to work with airports, and government and industry agencies to address the current needs, they continue their proactive approach for future screening technology.
