Apple announced that beginning in mid-2007, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Continental Airlines, Air France, Emirates, and KLM will all provide iPod seat connections to allow travelers to charge their iPods and listen to their music in flight.
Passengers with video iPods will be able to watch their videos on the screen of the seat in front of them when their iPod is plugged into the seat connection. Apple also stated it is working with other technology companies to expand this capability to more airlines.
The extent to which participating airlines will install this capability on planes varies. For instance, Delta plans to install the capability in 2007 on 48 planes used for U.S. coast-to-coast flights. By 2008, 100 additional planes will be equipped.
