The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in December began allowing a select group of non-ticketed individuals through security checkpoints at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Detroit Metro Airport, allowing them to greet arriving passengers and giving them access to shops, bars and restaurants typically accessible only by ticketed airline passengers.
This select group is currently limited to registered guests at the Grand Hyatt Hotel at Dallas Fort Worth International or the Westin Hotel at Detroit Metro Airport who have undergone stringent checks can bypass security and access terminal facilities without a boarding pass, but the same level of airport access for non-passengers could be implemented on a national scale if the Dallas and Detroit trials are successful. Members of airline clubs or parents of young children have been the only individuals let through security without a boarding pass in recent years.
The TSA is paying close attention to the program and stated it will not adopt the system if it in any way worsens airport congestion, puts passengers at risk or delays flights.
