More pets tagging along on business trips
More than 29 million people took at least one overnight trip with their pet in 2006, and many of them were business travelers. This growing trend is fueled by business trips requiring longer time away from home, more people owning pets and a response by the travel industry to make hotels and airplanes more pet friendly. Dogs are brought along on trips the most, followed by cats.
Pet friendliness is no longer shown by highway motels only – in fact, many high-end properties have begun catering to discerning pet owners traveling for business or leisure by offering pet walking services, pet room service and pet happy hours.
A number of resources exist for travelers wishing to do some research before taking their pet along on business. The Web site www.petswelcome.com provides pet-friendly hotel listings, information on pet sitters and much more information. Another Web site, www.tripswithpets.com, also provides a listing of pet-friendly hotels, along with airline pet policies, pet travel tips and more.
