In an effort to set itself apart from its competitors, United Airlines has hired renowned chef Charlie Trotter to create unique, high-quality cuisine for customers flying business and first class to Europe and on transcontinental flights between New York and California. Trotter will team up with United’s Corporate Executive Chef Gerry Gulli to create exclusive signature entrees for its highest paying passengers.
Trotter is no stranger to United, having served as its celebrity chef from 1999 to 2001. He is well known for his innovative menu creations, including dishes like Maine lobster with tropical fruit and black pepper, and Thai barbecue poussin with braised collard greens and preserved red onions.
As a whole, the airline industry was forced to scale back on various luxury offerings after the events of 9/11. Recent months have seen a resurgence in enhanced airline offerings, from the addition of upscale food to lie-flat beds and expanded entertainment offerings.
