The opening last month of Pier F at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport Terminal 1 marked the end of an eight-year airport development program undertaken by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. With business travelers’ needs in mind, the new state-of-the-art facility has high ceilings and features two new Maple Leaf lounges, 78 new check-in kiosks and wireless Internet service throughout.
Touted as bigger, better, faster and longer, Pier F aims to process travelers more quickly and smoothly. Thanks to North America’s first high-speed moving walkway, passengers are whisked along at three times normal walking speed. The customs hall at Pier F is one of the biggest in North America and features more baggage carousels, allowing arriving passengers to retrieve their luggage quickly and efficiently.
All Star Alliance member airlines, including Air Canada and Untied Airlines, now operate out of Pier F. For added convenience, passengers connecting to flights at Terminal 3 can use the new monorail that links the two terminals.
The airport’s duty free area could easily be the largest in North America, selling everything from liquor to music and Canadian maple syrup. In addition, a wide selection of food and beverage facilities is located outside the duty-free area.
Plans are also in place to build a conference center and spa facilities, allowing travelers the option to work or relax while they wait for their flights.
