In a first for U.S. airports, Newark Liberty International Airport recently opened a combined health center, pharmacy and retail store in the shopping concourse of Terminal C. The Harmony Pharmacy and Health Center offers travelers and airport personnel various pharmaceutical and medical services on site.
Primary services include dispensing of prescriptions; fulfillment of outside prescriptions; an on-site nurse-practitioner; and treatment of minor injuries and ailments such as allergies, colds, flu, bronchitis, ear and sinus infections, flu shot administration, and simple checkups.
The facility anticipates a diverse clientele, as nearly 24 million passengers pass through Terminal C each year and an estimated 25,000 employees work at the airport’s three terminals and adjacent locations. The center will be open 365 days a year and its parent company, Harmony, plans to expand to 15 major U.S. airports in the coming months, as well as into upscale non-airport communities.

In an annual survey of travelers conducted by Airports Council International (ACI), Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) was named the best airport in North and South America. More broadly, the survey ranked DFW fifth best in the world.
Officials at DFW credit this honor to recent upgrades that were part of the airport’s capital improvement program. Upgrades included a new Skylink airport train, international Terminal D and expanded concessions. The airport also launched an ambassador program, deploying volunteers at high-traffic areas where travelers are most likely to need assistance. Plans are also underway to replace all the chairs in the gate areas of Terminals A, B, C, and E.
The ACI survey ranks top airports by region, size and type. This is the first time DFW has been recognized.
