Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in April began a renovation of its Tom Bradley Internatioanl Terminal that will cost nearly $725 million USD. Environmentally sustainable construction and materials will be used and all work will be compliant with the city’s newly implemented green building policy.
The main components of the project include construction of a second boarding gate to accommodate larger aircraft, installation of a new checked-baggage security system, and updating of public spaces.
Glass walls, metal ceilings, and carpeting will all contain recycled materials, and more than 75 percent of resultant waste materials from the project will be salvaged or recycled. The renovation will also include more efficient heating, cooling, ventilation, and lighting systems. Moreover, 100 percent of the airport’s electricity will be provided from renewable resources.
Completion of the project is expected by March 2010 and funding will come from airport revenues, airline reimbursements, and passenger facility charges.

Passengers who arrive early for their flight or who have a layover at Denver International Airport (DIA) now have a new way to kill time – by playing videogames. Nineteen different games are offered at individual, private booths in all three of DIA’s concourses. The booths will be available in the main concourse in July.
Each booth features a 23-inch screen with enhanced graphics and sound. Users can play against other gamers online, or use the machine to simply surf the internet, for 25 cents USD a minute.
“The single ingredient needed to make this machine a gamer magnet is idle time," said Rick Malone, president of Zoox Stations, the company behind the gaming booths.
