Effective January 7, 2008, the U.K. Department for Transport has relaxed its rules regarding the amount of carry-on baggage air travelers can bring when traveling through U.K. airports. Previous rules limited the carry-on baggage allowance to one item per person. While the baggage allowance still varies by airline, the airports where the one-bag rule has been lifted include: Aberdeen, Benbecula, Birmingham, Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heathrow, Inverness, Islay, Kirkwall, London City, Manchester, Newcastle, Plymouth, Prestwick, Southampton, Southend, Stansted, Stornoway, Sumburgh, Wick.
British Airways has announced that in response to this rule change, effective January 7, 2008, a two-piece cabin baggage allowance will apply to travelers departing London Heathrow, London City, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Manchester.
Restrictions still remain in place regarding the amount of liquids travelers can bring through security. For specific baggage rules and restrictions, travelers should check with their airline.

As previously reported in CWT Traveler, growing segments of the hotel industry are opening “ pod-style” hotel accommodations for price-conscious travelers who are willing to sacrifice space and amenities for low room rates. These hotels have been dubbed “pod hotels” and have been gaining popularity in Europe and the United States.
The snug and tech-conscious accommodations are typically 75 to 100 square feet, featuring such amenities as iPod docking stations with wireless capabilities, flat-screen TVs, and adjustable lighting. They are often preferred for short stays or for people who don’t spend much time in their hotel rooms.
Most recently, Yotel opened two hotels at London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports. These accommodations are available for travelers with long layovers looking for convenience, comfort, and privacy without leaving the airport.
