Last month, United Airlines opened a new lobby at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
Designed to add a level of concierge service to the check-in process, this lobby is available to
first-class passengers and elite frequent fliers traveling internationally.
Travelers are greeted by United staff who assist with processing tickets, passports, and
baggage. Travelers are then escorted to the front of the line at the security checkpoint.

In an effort to speed up and improve the traffic flow at security checkpoints, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently implemented test programs at Denver International Airport and Salt Lake City Airport.
The plan proposes offering three types of security lanes for three types of travelers, with each lane being designated by an insignia for each traveler type: a green circle for families with small children, groups, or those with special needs; a blue sign for the casual, or frequent traveler with multiple carry-on bags; and a black diamond for the expert traveler carrying minimal luggage.
The two-week TSA test program, with its ski-slope theme, allows travelers to select the line that best suits their needs; the line they choose may depend on the circumstances of the particular trip. On a business trip the black diamond line may be selected, while on vacation with small children the same traveler may select the green circle line to better meet the family’s needs as well as to not hold up the frequent and expert travelers.
