Due to record oil prices, several airlines have
recently unleashed new fees, including higher fuel surcharges, as well as schedule cutbacks. Here
are some of the additional fees and changes travelers can expect to see later this summer:
Starting August 1, US Airways will be the first major U.S. airline to start charging USD $2 for
non-alcoholic beverages on its flights. Prices for alcoholic beverages will increase from USD $5 to
$7.
US Airways and Delta will begin charging a USD $25 to $50 fee, depending on the destination, to
travelers redeeming frequent flier miles for award tickets.
American Airlines, US Airways, and United Airlines will charge USD $15 to check a single
bag.
Most major airlines have increased their fuel surcharges.
Many airlines have also reduced their service to both domestic and international
destinations.
