In a move toward aligning the policies of Delta and
Northwest, Delta has announced that it will begin charging travelers USD $15 for the first checked
bag for travel on or after December 5. The fee for a second checked bag will be $25.
Delta’s previous policy—allowing the first bag to be checked free and the second checked bag
costing $50—will remain in effect until December 5. Additional policy and fee alignments relate to
curbside check-in fees, award ticket fuel surcharges and more. Additional details can be found at
Delta.com.
Current baggage policies and fees for North American air carriers can be found on the
CWT US Web site.

American Airlines makes plans for fleet renewal
In October, American Airlines entered into
a purchase agreement to order 42 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, listed to be worth more than $8 billion.
This is the first order American Airlines has made in more than seven years. Delivery of the
aircrafts is expected to begin in 2012 and end in 2018, with an option to purchase more.
According to AMR Chairman and CEO Gerard Arpey, “the 787 will help reduce our fuel and
maintenance costs, lessen our environmental impact, and support our goal of providing
industry-leading products and services over the long haul.”
