Following the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, the United States and Canada have issued travel alerts advising travelers to avoid non-essential travel to the country. The earthquake struck near the capital of Port-au-Prince, causing extensive damage and casualties.
Effective March 1, 2010, Canadian citizens, including those with dual nationality, traveling to Mexico will be required to travel with a passport. While passports are not currently required for Canadians traveling to Mexico, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada has recommended that, in order to avoid delays and misunderstandings, Canadians travel with a passport valid for at least six months after their arrival date.
