If you travel to Rio de Janeiro, you’ll inevitably end up moving – that’s how profound physical activity is embedded in the local culture. Even in the early mornings the beaches are already packed with fit people exercising before starting to work: jogging, walking, yoga or zumba – it’s all happening before 9 am on Copacabana beach and elsewhere along the coastline. And evidence that soccer is Brazil’s national sport is displayed on every street corner.
Rio is interesting in terms of its culture as well – the colonial era has left its traces on many historical buildings and there are fascinating museums waiting to be discovered by art and culture enthusiasts. Undoubtedly, a ride to the top of the Sugarloaf Mountain by cableway and a climb up the Corcovado are absolute must-dos – the views from both of these landmarks are breathtaking.
