The Future of Business Travel in China

CWT China & TTG Events joint report reveals future direction of industry according to travel managers

Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), China and TTG Events today released the inaugural 2015 Survey Report on Business Travel in China. The joint survey marks the second collaboration between the two partners this year, after a successful co-organization of the first Corporate Travel World (CTW) China conference, which took place in Shanghai. The report highlights the top trends that will influence business travel in China in the coming months, and explains the immediate priorities for travel professionals.

 

Travel managers selected the following three trends from a list of 11 as those most likely to impact their travel program (the rankings shown below are based on the percentage of respondents who answered “very high” or “high” ), namely:

 

1.    DATA SECURITY (61 percent) – In addition to reinforcing their IT measures to safeguard and back up key data, companies are increasingly looking at how to address employee behavior in keeping corporate data safe through the development of appropriate policies.

 

2.    MOBILE TECHNOLOGY (49 percent) – The right information at the right time is critical to smooth travel. Companies are looking to managed travel apps to meet the information needs of their employees and increase traveler efficiency on the go.

3.    BIG DATA (46 percent) – Travel managers are looking to obtain greater amount and depth of data through enhanced data reporting and expense management systems. Tailored analytic solutions also enable companies to mine this data for insights to better improve their travel programs.

 

The report also outlined the key priorities for travel managers:

 

1.    IMPLEMENTING A DOOR-TO-DOOR ONLINE BOOKING TOOL (76 percent) – Providing a one-stop shop for business travelers to manage their entire trip, from booking flights and hotels to filing expenses.

 

2.    DEPLOYING A FARE TRACKING AND REBOOKING SOLUTION (72 percent) – This enables companies to save on ticket prices that may be discounted after booking, thus reinforcing their advance booking policies which protects them against last-minute price fluctuations.

 

3.    PROVIDING RECOMMENDATIONS TO IMPROVE TRAVELER WELL-BEING (72 percent) – Companies can help travelers to limit stress through a policy and/or educational approach, by providing more specific recommendations tailored to specific traveler profiles.

 

Commenting on the report, Albert Zhong, general manager, CWT China, said, “These findings enable us to better understand how developments in the industry – from mobility to analytics – can positively impact our clients and their travelers. The report also provides corporate travel managers an insight to these developments to ensure they are sufficiently equipped in terms of knowledge and resources to stay ahead.

Results were derived from an online survey of 105 Chinese corporate travel and meetings and events industry professionals that also comprise of 2015 CTW China attendees, conducted between February and March this year.
