Comfort campaign for passengers: ICE 3 gets a makeover

More room, more information, more enjoyment: DB is redesigning its ICE 3 trains to increase comfort levels for passengers and make the high-speed vehicles even more reliable.

After 15 years of service, the 66 trains are being modernised to get them ready for the future. There is more space for luggage, prams and wheelchairs, seats are being modernised, and passengers can look forward to receiving more up-to-the-minute information while in transit. These are just some examples of how DB is working to make train travel even more comfortable and convenient. All trains are being fitted with the European Train Control System (ETCS): this will permit more flexible deployment in the continent's high-speed rail network.

With new interiors and the latest technology, the trains will be ready to serve the new Berlin-Munich high-speed connection as of December 2017. The new line will permit travel between the two major cities in less than four hours – that means journey times two hours shorter than at present.
