The benefits of switching to CWT


Leading global consumer packaging group, Rexam plc decided to change travel management company (TMC)  to contain costs, boost supplier leverage and consolidate reporting.


This strategy supported the group’s aim of meeting market demand for beverage cans, growing at around 3% annually.


Shaking things up


CWT secured the business having successfully managed the travel programme of Rexam’s subsidiary company, Rexam BCE, since 2005. CWT’s achievements for Rexam BCE include:

  • Implementation of online booking tools in the UK and France

  • Driving online adoption

  • Implementation of ISOS security tracking in the UK

  • More than £2million of air savings in the UK from 2008-2011

  • Hotel programme analysis, sourcing and negotiations


Smooth transition


"We did everything in our power to ensure the transition of Rexam plc’s travel programme to CWT went smoothly,” said CWT programme manager Eileen Lemon. “This meant detailed and meaningful preparation in advance of the implementation."


The Rexam group chose Concur as its expense and travel management tool. CWT worked closely with both Rexam and Concur to prepare for the transition.


Establishing relationships


To ensure that the offline side of the business also enjoyed a smooth transition, Eileen organised bookers’ forums. This was organised in two forums to introduce bookers to their new travel team and to answer any queries raised.


In addition, Eileen hosted weekly progress calls with Rexam plc’s group supply chain manager, Nezar Mahmoud.


Delivering Results


Rexam plc’s switch to CWT is already bringing great results. The consolidation has brought an overall saving of 38% in TMC costs to the Rexam group in the UK through a single point of contact.

Future savings in the can


"We expect to achieve a further 2-4% increase in air discounts for Rexam within 18 months. I’m delighted that Rexam’s travel programme is already stronger, simpler and more cost effective as a result."
